The new school year begins Monday, August 9. There are two learning options available for students – in-person and Modesto Virtual Academy or MVA.
Students attending school in-person, will receive instruction on campus, full-time, five days a week. As required by the California Department of Public Health, when indoors, masks will be required for all students and adults, regardless of vaccination status. When outdoors, masks are optional for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
Student desks no longer have plexiglass shields, and distancing between desks is back at pre-pandemic spacing.
The Modesto Virtual Academy is Modesto City Schools’ online, independent study program for students in grades TK-12. Independent study is self-paced. Students meet with a teacher once a week for one hour. These meetings can be in-person or virtual.
At the meetings, students receive a week’s worth of assignments, and complete the assignments on their own prior to the next meeting with the teacher. New this year, state leaders recently passed Senate Bill 130 which requires that students in grades TK-8 have daily interaction with a teacher or MVA staff member.
For additional information on MVA, or to submit an interest form, please visit the MVA webpage and read the list of MVA frequently asked questions (FAQ).
All students will have access to meals at no charge. Updates will be available on our website soon.
