School Closure Info:
Today, March 27, 2020, IB sent out some clarifying information about the plan for this year's Diplomas and Certificates. IB will be using a combination of the Internal Assessments that have been or will be submitted and "vast historical assessment data" to determine IB scores for the 2020 diploma year. More detailed information is available on the IB Website- https://ibo.org/
Given the ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, all Modesto City Schools are closed through May 3, 2020. This also aligns with the other school districts in Stanislaus County. Latest MCS info.
CAS Guidelines – In effect during school closure 2020
New COVID 19 compliant CAS guidelines have been posted for students on their English Schoology courses. See CAS Page for details.
The following message is for all IB juniors and seniors who were signed up to test this year:
From Principal Jason Manning:
The IB Organization announced that the May examinations for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and Career-related Program will not be held this year due to the Coronavirus or COVID-19, pandemic.
According to the IB Organization, depending on the subject of the test, students may be awarded a Diploma or a Course Certificate based on their standard of work. This is based on student's coursework and the established assessment expertise, rigor and quality control already built into the programs.
Students should continue to work on and prepare for internal assessments and projects during this time. Based on IB guidance, our staff is working on alternate options for students to assess and submit their completed work. We are also developing a plan for the IB English Orals. We will post more information here when those plans are in place.
There are free and low-cost internet options available for families without internet access. Contact Comcast or AT&T directly. There is also internet access information on the Modesto City Schools website at mcs4kids.com under the school closure resources section.
I know you will have many questions. The IB organization plans to share full details and next steps on their website by March 27. I will update you after that time.
Feel free to reach out to me or IB Coordinator Kerry Castellani for more information. Students may also look for information on Schoology.
I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Please know your teachers, administrators, and the rest of the MoHi staff are here to support and provide the most up-to-date information as it is received. I look forward to seeing everyone again very soon!
-Update 3/22/20 – IB has announced that the end-of-the-year exams have been cancelled. Internal Assessments are still being submitted. More information will follow.
